Most doctors prescribe drugs to treat the condition, but medications have side effects that often make patients feel even worse. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with restless leg syndrome or the side effects from drugs. Instead, you can resolve this affliction by making slight changes to your diet.
Restless Leg Syndrome Explained
To fully understand restless leg syndrome, you have to know the role that calcium plays in muscle contractions. Your skeletal muscles have countless fibers that give you voluntary control of your movements. When you want to move your leg, a signal gets sent from your brain to the muscle in your leg. It’s a wonderful system that works perfectly as long as you give it the right materials.
Calcium plays a crucial role in voluntary muscle movement because it’s present inside and outside of the muscle fibers. As long as you have the proper balance of calcium inside and outside, you maintain control of your muscles. When the balance gets thrown off, though, muscles will move involuntarily. That’s the underlying source of restless leg syndrome.
Your Diet Causes Restless Legs
A lot people experience restless legs because they don’t have enough calcium in their diets. They may think that they consume plenty of calcium because they eat a lot of green leafy vegetables or take supplements, but the fact of the matter is that those approaches don’t address the underlying problem.

Eating green leafy vegetables can boost the amount of calcium in your diet, but you have to choose organic produce or grow the vegetables in your backyard. Roundup has been shown to leach calcium from vegetables. If it has been used to make farming easier for food corporations, then you will not get the calcium that you need to avoid conditions like this.
Most calcium supplements also fail to correct restless legs because they contain calcium carbonate instead of calcium lactate. Supplement manufacturers choose calcium carbonate because it’s cheaper to buy. However, taking it won’t do much for your body.
People also suffer from restless leg syndrome because they lack the fatty acids and minerals needed to distribute calcium deep into muscle tissues. If your body doesn’t have plenty of vitamin D, magnesium and Cataplex F (also called vitamin F even though it’s really a fatty acid), all the calcium in the world won’t prevent restless legs.
Preventing Restless Leg Syndrome With Calcium
Can calcium cure this malady? Yes, but only if you consume the right kind of calcium and combine it with the vitamins and minerals that act as diffusers. The good news is that you have plenty of options.
First, you have to get the right kind of calcium in your diet. Eating organic leafy green vegetables and raw dairy products will do the trick.You don’t want pasteurized dairy products because the pasteurization destroys the calcium binding enzyme phosphatase which will stop calcium from binding with your bones.
Second, make sure you have plenty of vitamin D in your diet. If you get vitamin D from sunlight, then you need to spend about 30 minutes outdoors three times per week. During winter, you may need up to eight hours of sunlight. Third, you need to make sure that your body has adequate amounts of diffused calcium. This is the ionized calcium deep in the tissues. Otherwise, the calcium will not get out of the blood and won’t penetrate your tissues and muscles. You can do this by frequently eating fish or taking Cataplex F.
