Asthma

Can Supplements Ease The Symptoms of Asthma?

The picture above depicts the modern approach to dealing with the symptoms of asthma in adults. Inhalers force lung passages to open when they should be closed and healing. The medical approach says, “Just do what you can to mediate the condition and manage the symptoms to some degree of lesser intensity”, they do nothing to heal the reason for the asthma, nor do they even attempt to cure it. Asthma is detox through the lungs. Using steroids, especially if it is in the form of inhalers is interrupting this detox. One needs to get to the root problem of this and stop the never-ending toxicity coming from the gut. After all, if your sink was leaking, would you just continually mop up the water, or would you fix the problem? This can be very dangerous. The huge flow of toxins from the gut causes a traffic jam, so the overloaded liver passes toxins on to the lungs. The reason for the toxicity has to be addressed.

Do you know that nobody died of Asthma before 1950? This is forbidden information you probably didn’t know. It was a benign problem taking care of easily and simply. Unlike today where the very “treatment” causes the asthma to get worse, sometimes much worse… We just had a darling little 4-year girl, in our neighborhood, die from asthma symptoms, so we are very serious, and very concerned that we fix the foundational issue with this “disease.”  Or as the medical system calls it: “Asthma is a long-term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs.” We, at the Forbidden Doctor, say you need to address the cause of the inflammation, not just manage the symptoms.

What we suggest, as an alternative, is some forbidden healing modalities concerning the pre-steroid-era (prior to 70 years ago) understanding of asthma. For an extended discussion of this topic please listen to Podcast #153 Asthma and Bronchitis – Heartless Killers. Or scroll down to the supplement list and look that over. But hopefully, you take the time to read the following information from Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, author of Gut And Psychology Syndrome (GAPS), concerning Asthma, and understand it is critical to heal this foundationally: (Text in brackets [   ] are our comments.)

“Whatever the liver doesn’t clean up, next gets delivered to the lungs. For instance, toxic gases escape this way. Toxins, undigested proteins, microbes, phagocytes––these ride up the mucociliary escalator. This escalator consists of every cell that lines our breathing pathways, which have stiff little hairs that produce mucous and point upwards. Toxins move up along the hairs and they get coughed up. When too much toxic material accumulates, enough to damage the bronchi, you will get a chest inflammation, or bronchitis––not due to a virus or a cold, just due to the level of toxicity in the bronchi that has built up a little too high, and needs to detoxify. Asthma and “chest infections” are the lungs’ way of trying to detoxify.  Sometimes, toxic gases end up escaping through the bronchi, gases that would normally be dealt with by the liver. These can do serious damage to the bronchi.

“What the body does to defend itself is to create a bronchospasm (wheeze). During this time, for the 20-25 minutes [that’s all!] that it takes for new cells to push the damaged ones out of the way and begin to do the important job of filtration (“directing the traffic” in the bronchi), the bronchi narrows to slow down the “cars.” If the cars are zooming by too quickly, while the speedy road repair is taking place, there will be further damage to the cells. This temporary road closure allows healing to take place efficiently.

“Once the passage clears, and the new cells are working, the airway opens. Wheezing is a protective mechanism for healing bronchi, which illustrates exactly why asthma inhalers can be so damaging: by forcing the airways open at exactly the moments they need to be closed for cellular repair.

“All that people generally need is to sit up during a bronchospasm, keep warm, drink a hot tea, [and/or bone broth] and let it pass. For a long time, that’s all the advice doctors ever gave, and nobody ever died of Asthma before 1950! Now that we have widespread use of antispasmodic drugs (just since the 1950s-60s), not allowing the bronchi to repair, we have airways getting further damaged with every bronchospasm, with all this high-speed toxin traffic jetting by and not slowing down to give the airways a chance to heal, for 20-25 minutes. Inhalers force passages to open, when they should be closed and healing, but the toxins keep coming. Asthma used to be a benign and mild healing event. Now it is one of the major childhood killers.”

Asthma is the body’s way of detoxing, and the bronchi need a chance to repair for 20-25 mins, and should not be interfered with. In our clinical experience, asthma clears up in 3-6 months on the GAPS diet and good therapeutic supplementation, when good detox systems are used, the patient sits quietly, stays warm, and doesn’t panic during an attack for 20-30 mins, which allows the bronchi to heal. At first, they feel better psychologically using a small amount of inhaler, but soon give it up.

If you have asthma then it’s a direct sign that your gut needs healing with the GAPS diet and asthma is a symptom of this. Then the supportive supplements below will help and continue the rebuilding and healing of the lung tissue.

Questions about this protocol? Why not ask Dr. Jack and Mary directly? They will respond to patient texts at 801-556-1477 and emails to info@forbiddendoctor.com. There are no “dumb questions” and you can expect absolute discretion and privacy.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BULLETS BEFORE USING THIS PROTOCOL
  • The protocol above is designed to address your issues at the foundational level, and not to treat disease. This means, in our opinion, most of our health problems, short of accident or trauma, are of a dietary nutritional deficiency. The listed protocol or supplement provides your body with essential micro and macronutrients to help and assist normal nutritional balance.
  • Daily dosage are in ( ) parenthesis for most protocols; for example (6) means take 6 per day, but spread it out by taking half in the morning and half in the evening. Some protocols will have more specific instructions to follow.
  • MediHerb products, shown in italics, often speed healing response and should be considered for most protocols unless contraindicated.
  • We recommend adding the General Health Daily Fundamentals pack to each protocol. This adds in the critical foundational nutrition each protocol needs. It contains Catalyn––an entirely whole-food and glandular broad-spectrum multivitamin, Trace Minerals-B12, and Tuna Omega-3 pearls for your DHA and EPA omega 3 fatty acids daily requirements.
  • Spacing out the daily doses throughout the day improves absorption and is strongly recommended.
  • Most supplements should be taken with food except for PMG’s, most calcium products, Gastrex, Chlorophyll Complex™, Okra Pepsin E3, Cholocol II and Zymex II. Also, most herbs work more efficiently if taken away from food.
  • Be advised that these nutritional and herbal products are not intended as a primary therapy for any disease, but rather to provide nutritional and herbal support to help normalize body physiology and repair.

When you say to do the GAPS diet for asthma, do you mean the entire thing, including the intro portion, or is the full GAPS enough? Asking because when I tried to do the full diet, I was having panic attacks over the amount of work involved by the end of week one and gave up (I was doing it for six people on top of homeschooling four children and working part-full time and freaking out bc my already underweight four year old lost a frightening amount of weight.) Also, do you recommend teenagers with PCOS go on the GAPS diet? I’ve read a HFLC diet is good for them but I have a history of eating disorders and I’m scared about triggering that in them.

  2. Theforbiddendoctor says:

    Oh my, Kim,

No. Don’t even think about adding more stuff to your plate. You can still get your family better just by eating ONLY animal foods. I realize animal foods take a bit longer to prepare than, fruit, veggies, and processed packaged food, but they are the easiest of foods to digest and have the most nutrition. Prepare them rare and as raw as you can stand. I’m talking bacon, eggs (lightly cooked and/or raw – as in Mary’s Milkshake), butter, cream, kefir, yogurt, fish, chicken, pork (the most nutritious), beef, and especially organ meat, chicken livers, beef liver, heart, pate’s, pork chops, just anything that sounds good and the family is craving. Cut out the breads, cold cereals, desserts, pizzas, processed foods, and sugar of any kind. You’ll save money in the long-run by not buying all kinds of produce. We are addicted to the sugars in fruit and vegetables, and you don’t need them UNLESS you are craving them. Then make sure the fruits are very ripe, and the veggies are fermented or cooked very, very, very, well. Otherwise, you’re going to rip up your gut again.

I would also follow the GAPS supplementation protocol on our website to speed up the healing. Or do a Symptom Survey for the illest of the bunch. I’m also thinking your 4-year-old lost weight because he didn’t eat and is probably addicted to carbs and not good dense animal foods. Do not worry. He WILL eventually eat animal foods (what kid doesn’t like bacon?) and he will gain weight. You certainly don’t want weight put on him from carbs — that’s just setting him up for diabetes. Nor will he die if he refuses to eat. This ALWAYS happens with very young children, especially boys, because they only want certain foods, and they are always all carbs… empty nutrition. Carbs feed the wrong bugs in his gut. This has to be fixed before he is five years old — according to Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride.

So feed your family, and eat what you crave of, meat, eggs, fish, dairy, fermented food, and spices. Don’t forget the spices! Think deviled eggs! Yum!
